I picked up my savage out of chance. I have only been riding for 3 months, and when I was getting started I looking for a cheaper used bike as a starter. Trying to find a style I liked, I was looking at manufactures web sites to see pictures of the bikes. Then I found the savage with enough motor to keep my interested, a look and price ($4299 MSRP) to keep me smiling. With the rebate and a dealer discount I got on a brand new 2003 savage for $3700. Compared to what I could have gotten used - it was a steal.

A lot of people tell me the bike is a touch to small for me (6'2" - 240lbs) but it is fun to ride and for the most part comfortable (long trips can get make my ass a little uncomfortable).

I have yet to do any customizing on it (waiting for the winter so I don't lose any riding time), but the options and changes seem endless. I would like to get it re-painted; I am not a big fan of the savage decal on the tank.

People say it is a great starter bike, but the price and the ride make it one of those bikes you just keep when/if you go out and get something bigger.

My only complaint on the savage is the wobble in the wind. I understand it is a result of the loose steering – but it can still make for a nasty ride in windy conditions.
